Jeremiah Cummings Named Artistic Director of Gay Men’s Chorus of Tampa Bay

Tampa, FL – April 19, 2026

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Tampa Bay (GMCTB) Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Jeremiah Cummings as the permanent Artistic Director of Tampa Bay’s premier LGBTQ+ choral organization. Cummings officially succeeded Kyle Goyens after stepping in as Interim Artistic Director for the 2025-2026 season. Cummings also serves as the Director of Music and Communications for King of Peace Metropolitan Community Church in Pinellas Park.

“Jeremiah has demonstrated in his time as Interim Artistic Director that he is a leader committed to developing musical excellence and increasing visibility for the LGBTQ+ community in Tampa Bay,” said Sam Brown, GMCTB President.

Says Cummings: “I am thankful for all that we have been able to achieve together during my time as Interim Artistic Director, and I look forward to what is ahead. With everything that is happening in our world, I believe that GMCTB is a literal voice singing of hope, inclusivity, unity and the power that comes from togetherness. The music that we make and the diverse community that we have created are important for so many of us to have a safe space of belonging. The power of music can be transformative, and I look forward to being a small part of helping sing this new chapter of GMCTB's history into being.”

Originally from Camden, OH, Cummings is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University where he received a Bachelor of Music degree with concentration in Vocal Performance. He has served in Director of Music positions at Calvary Church, The Rock MCC, and MCC of the Palm Beaches, before joining King of Peace in 2018. In 2015, he was honored with MCC’s “Bob Crocker Award for Excellence in Music Ministry”. Cummings shares his passion for music with his husband, and GMCTB Collaborative Pianist, Dr. Ricardo Pozenatto.

The Artistic Director Search Committee was assembled to leverage the expertise of GMCTB’s membership and Board of Directors. Led by chair Sam Brown (GMCTB President) and Daniel Lastorino (GMCTB Vice President), the committee included Stan Kutz (Singing Member), Steven Florio (Bass Section Leader), and Vance White (GMCTB Director of Development).
