The Gay Men’s Chorus of Tampa Bay (GMCTB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating the inherent dignity of all people through music, community, and advocacy. With over two decades of performances across Tampa Bay and beyond, our chorus unites diverse voices in harmony to inspire pride, joy, and social change.
Position Summary
GMCTB seeks a Permanent Artistic Director to lead the artistic vision, musical excellence, and performance programming of the chorus. The Artistic Director will collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, chorus members, collaborative accompanist, and community partners to uphold our mission and grow our artistic impact. This position will begin on July 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
Direct weekly rehearsals, sectionals, and performances.
Select and arrange repertoire aligning with GMCTB’s mission and programming goals.
Coordinate with the Board and Programming Team to plan concert seasons and special events.
Lead concert preparation, including auditions, tech rehearsals, and performance execution.
Recruit and develop musical talent within the chorus.
Foster an inclusive, supportive, and respectful environment that reflects the values of the organization and LGBTQ+ community.
Represent GMCTB in the community as a cultural ambassador and advocate.
Qualifications
Proven experience directing choral ensembles or vocal groups.
Bachelor’s degree in music education, conducting, or related field
Strong vocal coaching and rehearsal skills.
Collaborative, creative, and mission-driven leadership style.
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and LGBTQ+ visibility in the arts.
Compensation
$1,900/month, inclusive of weekly rehearsals, formal performances (currently 4 per year), special featured performances in the community, and artistic planning duties. Reasonable expenses related to travel for performances and donor engagements are reimbursed in accordance with GMCTB policy.
